About The Position

The Certified Medical Assistant is responsible for assisting physicians and the clinical team in the evaluation, management, and delivery of professional medical care in a busy multi-specialty practice. The person in this role will perform a variety of tasks related to patient care management, organization, and communication. This position will have the opportunity to make a difference in our patients’ clinic experience; we are looking for someone who has a positive attitude, strong customer service skills and is eager to be a team player.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of healthcare regulations and preventative measures (HIPAA confidentiality, infection control, etc.).
  • Candidate must be able to function in a team setting, be detail oriented, possesses excellent customer service skills, and be flexible as needs arise.
  • Medical Assistant Certification required: National Association for Health Professionals; National Health career Association; American Medical Technologists; American Association of Medical Assistants.
  • Current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS certification required.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of a Medical Assistant program through an accredited organization preferred.
  • Experience and training as a medical assistant with demonstration of appropriate competencies may be accepted in lieu of completion of medical assistant program.
  • Minimum two years of experience as a Certified Medical Assistant preferred; orthopaedics experience preferred.
  • Prior experience working with EPIC a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and choreograph patient care, room patients and prepare them for examination -take vitals and health history.
  • Pre-plan the daily patient schedule; have all documentation, supplies, etc. ready for the provider.
  • Documenting history; recording and reporting pertinent observations and patient reactions to staff, as appropriate; documenting lab procedures and ensuring follow up on results and documents all care provided to the patient utilizing the EMR system and scan/download documents
  • Speak with patients regarding scheduled tests and test results as indicated from charts after review by physician.
  • Make telephone calls to patients regarding physician orders and/or prescription medications ordered by the physician.
  • Assist with cast/splint removal, suture removal and/or dressing changes.
  • Explain procedures/surgeries, tests and care preparation as needed for adequate patient education.
  • Sterilize equipment before and after treatment and properly dispose used containers and items.
  • Respond to phone calls/requests from patients, pharmacies, hospitals, nursing homes and other medical offices.
  • Assist providers with special procedures and examinations as needed.
  • Maintain orderliness and cleanliness of examination rooms; stock assigned areas and ensure par levels of supplies are maintained.
