About The Position

This is a full-time Certified Instrument Technician position within Sterile Processing Services at Atrium Health Mercy. The role involves ensuring the safety and efficacy of sterilization processes and equipment, performing various cleaning and assembly tasks for surgical instruments, and operating sterilization equipment. The position requires adherence to safety standards, identification and reporting of equipment malfunctions, and meticulous documentation. The role is responsible for processing general, laparoscopic, orthopedic, neuro, cardiovascular, power, and flexible scope instrumentation, including High Level Disinfection (HLD). It also involves preparing and using necessary supplies, inspecting and assembling instruments, packaging and labeling, and verifying the functionality and operation of sterilization equipment. The position requires working in patient care areas, often under stressful conditions, and involves continuous standing, walking, bending, stooping, reaching, stretching, pushing, pulling, and lifting up to 40 lbs.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Certified Sterile Processing Technician (CSPDT) or Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) required.

Responsibilities

  • Adheres to safety standards.
  • Identifies, responds & reports malfunctions and/or alarms.
  • Performs efficacy and quality testing for all processes and equipment.
  • Identifies manual and/or mechanical cleaning according to the manufacturer's IFU for all general, laparoscopic, orthopedic, neuro, cardiovascular, power, instrumentation.
  • Performs flexible scope processing utilizing High Level Disinfection (HLD).
  • Determines, prepares, and uses supplies required in the assembly process.
  • Identifies, inspects, assembles general & specialty instruments checking for cleanliness & functionality utilizing count sheets.
  • Packages and labels instrumentation following standards.
  • Safely determines sterilization equipment functionality, operation, monitoring, and maintenance with verification and documentation of sterilization process.
  • Performs high temperature (steam) and low temperature (gas plasma, ethylene oxide, liquid chemical) sterilization.
