About The Position

The Certified Anesthesia Technician I-IV practices within the defined scope established by the American Society of Anesthesia Technologists and Technicians (ASATT). This position performs duties and responsibilities as delegated by and under the supervision of licensed anesthesia providers, in accordance with institutional policies, applicable laws, regulations, and ASATT standards of practice. The Tech demonstrates competency in providing perioperative anesthesia support, ensuring patient safety, maintaining equipment, and assisting with anesthesia-related procedures consistent with their training, certification, and regulatory scope of practice.

Requirements

High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
Holds a current ASATT-recognized anesthesia technology certification (e.g., Certified Anesthesia Technologist or Certified Anesthesia Technician) and maintains throughout employment.
Current JPS recognized Basic life support (BCLS) certification and must be maintained throughout employment.
Completion of unit orientation competencies within 90 days of hire.

Responsibilities

Coordinates medication and equipment throughout anesthesia operations.
Maintains, tests, and calibrates anesthesia delivery systems.
Controls and monitors anesthesia levels during procedures as directed by an anesthesiologist.
Administers anesthetic, adjuvant, or drugs as directed by an anesthesiologist.
Assists the licensed anesthesia provider with patient assessments, evaluations, transport, positioning, insertion of intravenous and other invasive lines, and airway management.
Actively participates in the development and/or administration of continuing education for Anesthesia Technicians.
Performs administrative duties that may include employee scheduling, assisting with evaluations and program development, and reviewing service agreements.
Performs point-of-care testing in accordance with hospital policy.
Assists in monitoring adequate availability and stocking of supplies and equipment according to the established PAR level.
Performs clerical functions as required and collects data for unit-specific process improvement as needed.
Works independently with guidance in only the most complex situations.
May lead multiple projects and is accountable for ongoing objectives.
Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience.
Organizes and coordinates the use of anesthesia support personnel.
