Drivers operate heavy-duty trucks with front-, side-, or rear-end load lift attachments, depending on the line of business and truck type. They transport materials to disposal, transfer, or recycling facilities when trucks reach legal load capacity. Commercial Drivers pick up containers filled with waste or recyclable material; containers may weigh more than 1,000 pounds and may need to be maneuvered to a pickup area. Residential Drivers collect household waste or recyclables and safely operate in residential environments. Roll-off Drivers prepare, load, and transport large mobile open-top and compactor containers from customer locations, including industrial routes with tight overhead environments. These roles require navigating congested roads, driveways, alleyways, and lots, and may require highly skilled backing maneuvers. The position involves operating the vehicle in accordance with company safety rules and applicable OSHA, DOT, and local, state, and federal requirements. Drivers inspect and document vehicle condition, report safety or service issues and incidents, attend required training and meetings, communicate customer requests and service interruptions, complete assigned routes and end-of-day documentation, and assist other drivers as directed. This is a safety-sensitive, on-site position. Physical demands include standing, walking, lifting, pushing, pulling, crouching, reaching, handling, sitting, talking, and hearing. The expected base pay range is $28–$30; the specific offer may depend on experience, education, training, certifications, qualifications, and work location.
