This entry-level regional dry van truck driver role is designed for new CDL-A drivers, including veterans transitioning from Camp Lejeune. Drivers haul freight across the eastern states and do not travel west of the Mississippi. Freight work includes drop-and-hook, preloads, and some live loads. Drivers are home every two weeks and receive an assigned truck. New drivers complete 4 to 6 weeks of paid mentor training at $850 per week, followed by solo driving. During the first three months of solo work, weekly pay is guaranteed to be at least $1,000. Drivers average $1,200 to $1,700 per week, with starting pay of $0.55 per mile and rates up to $0.65 per mile with experience, plus $15 for each extra stop and a monthly performance bonus. The weekly mileage range is 1,900 to 2,300 miles. The hiring process starts with a recruiter reviewing the applicant’s license and driving record. Orientation takes place in Richmond and lasts no more than two days. After hiring, orientation pays $300; hotel costs are covered and the bus ticket is reimbursed. Mentor training follows orientation, after which the driver receives their own truck. After 30 days, benefits include medical, dental, vision, prescription coverage, a 401(k), an employee stock plan, paid time off, and access to a tuition-free online degree for the driver and one family member.
