The CDL-A Trainee joins an East Coast regional freight fleet that hires new drivers and provides paid on-the-road training with a driver trainer for 4 to 6 weeks. Trainees earn $650 per week during training and move to solo driving in their own truck after sign-off. For three months after the first solo dispatch, the driver receives a guaranteed $1,000 weekly check. The role hauls freight along the eastern seaboard, generally not far west, averaging about 2,500 miles per week. Drivers are home every two weeks, and most loads are drop-and-hook. Average weekly gross pay is stated as $1,200 to $1,500. Starting mileage pay is $0.55 per mile, increasing by $0.01 for each year of experience up to $0.65 per mile, with $15 stop pay and a performance bonus plan.
