CDL-A Intermodal Driver - Home Daily - 5 Day Week
About The Position
The CDL-A Intermodal Driver hauls intermodal containers on a chassis between the Long Beach, Los Angeles, Commerce, City of Industry, and Bloomington rail ramps. Some routes travel over the Grapevine to the Shafter and Lebec areas. Freight includes preloads and live loads, and drivers do not touch freight or unload by hand. The truck is based at the company yard in Bell Gardens. Drivers report to the yard, take their assigned truck, complete their routes, and return home daily. Work is five days per week, with a choice of Sunday through Thursday or Tuesday through Saturday. Day and night shifts are available. Dispatch is automatic, so drivers do not select their routes. Days are full; drivers typically use 11 hours of driving time and may use the full 14-hour clock on some days. Pay is $19.25 per hour plus $18.71 per stop. Drivers are stated to earn $1,400 to $1,800 per week. Extra workdays are optional and are not forced. Major holidays such as Thanksgiving and Christmas are usually covered by volunteers; the yard closes early on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve.
Requirements
- Hold a Class A CDL from the state of residence.
- Have at least 3 months of verifiable driving experience.
- Live within 15 miles of Bell Gardens.
- Be at least 21 years old.
- Have no more than 2 moving violations in 2 years and no DUI/DWI in 10 years.
- Pass a DOT physical and drug screen.
Responsibilities
- Haul intermodal containers on a chassis between designated rail ramps and other assigned areas.
- Operate assigned routes, including some routes over the Grapevine to the Shafter and Lebec areas.
- Pick up the truck at the Bell Gardens yard, complete the workday, and return home.
- Handle a mix of preloads and live freight without touching or hand-unloading freight.
