About The Position

Ryder is hiring a Class A CDL truck driver in Chicago, Illinois, for a local route with daily home time. The driver operates solo, using a day cab and a 28-foot pup trailer, and transports touch freight consisting of clothes. The schedule is Monday through Friday, with occasional Saturdays, and the start time is 6:00 a.m.

Pay is weekly, with solo mileage pay of $0.65 per mile and an average of 1,900 miles per week, plus $25 per stop and an average of 10 stops per week. The posting states expected pay of $1,800 or more per week and offers a $2,500 sign-on bonus, split between payments at 30 and 90 days. Paid training is provided.

Drivers operate well-maintained trucks that are 36 months old or newer, with 24/7 roadside maintenance and fueling available at more than 800 nationwide maintenance locations. Requirements

• Be at least 21 years of age.
• Pass a Ryder drug test.
• Pass a Ryder background and motor vehicle check, including drug and alcohol verification from previous employers for the last three years.
• Pass a DOT physical.
• Pass a Ryder road test.
• Provide the appropriate CDL and endorsements for the position.
• Have verifiable Class A experience in a tractor-trailer or comparable vehicle: 9 months within the past 3 years, or 2 years within the last 5 years, or 5 years within the last 10 years.
• Be able to follow written and/or oral instructions.
• Be able to read, interpret, and apply laws, rules, regulations, policies, and/or procedures.
• Some positions may require additional screening, such as employment and education verification, a motor vehicle records check and road test, and/or customer badging or background requirements.

Responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with applicable federal and/or state laws, regulations, agency rules, standards, and guidelines.
• Detect and eliminate or minimize safety hazards.
• Maintain accurate records and logs.
• Load and unload freight, or assist with loading and unloading when required by the customer.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
