Drive locally hauling containers on chassis around the Lehigh Valley and Berks County, including routes between rail ramps, warehouses, and customers in Harrisburg, Allentown, Bethlehem, and Reading. Drivers do not handle freight. Work is primarily drop-and-hook, though live loads and unloads may occur and are handled by the crew. Drivers return to the yard at the end of each shift and go home daily; there are no weeks away from home or sleeper-berth assignments. Work five days per week on one of two schedules: Sunday through Thursday or Tuesday through Saturday. Drivers may choose a day or night shift. Typical weekly mileage is approximately 1,300 to 1,400 miles. New CDL-A drivers may apply after completing at least 120 hours of truck-driving school. New drivers complete 3 to 5 weeks (200 to 250 hours) of paid mentor training before beginning local routes.
