About The Position

The CCBHC Certified Peer Specialist provides goal-directed, medically necessary peer support services to adults with severe and persistent mental illness as a member of the Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC) Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) team. The role helps patients remain in the least restrictive environment by supporting recovery, independent decision-making, treatment engagement, and emotional and functional well-being. The position also facilitates recovery-focused peer groups, documents services according to COMCARE and CCBHC requirements, and provides transportation in a personal passenger vehicle for appointments and other therapeutic activities. The schedule is varied, Monday through Saturday, 40 hours per week between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. Pay is $18.54 per hour.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Must self-identify as a person in recovery from a behavioral health condition.
Must be able to fulfill KDADS requirements to become a Certified Peer Support Specialist.
Valid, unrestricted U.S. driver’s license and current proof of automobile insurance.
Must have a personal passenger vehicle for transportation of materials and individuals as needed for essential functions.
Must meet specifications outlined in CMHC/CCBHC licensing standards.
Must pass KBI, DCF child abuse check, adult abuse registry, and motor vehicle screens.

Responsibilities

Provide goal-directed, medically necessary peer support to adults with severe and persistent mental illness as part of the CCBHC ACT team.
Use identified and accepted peer-support methods to remediate mental illness symptoms and improve emotional and functional well-being in accordance with the CCBHC ACT model.
Help patients regain the ability to make independent choices and take a proactive role in treatment.
Share lived experience and model successful behaviors and strategies.
Drive patients in a personal passenger vehicle to medical appointments and therapeutic goal-related activities, including accessing community resources, employment or education, social activities, and patient-run activities.
Ensure peer-support groups are self-contained and goal-directed to help consumers minimize or resolve the effects of mental and emotional impairments.
Facilitate groups with a recovery focus and use effective facilitation strategies.
Complete timely progress notes that meet COMCARE and CCBHC requirements for medical necessity, goal-directed treatment, and patient response to treatment.
Complete Notes for Record, Precautions statements, and authorizations for release of records as required or recommended.
Enter no-shows and cancellations accurately and completely in the medical record.
Enter AIMS data as needed.
