About The Position

The Cashier performs cash-handling functions and serves customers in a cafeteria and/or coffee shop, with a focus on building positive customer satisfaction. The role also performs other related duties as assigned.

The position supports food-service operations by preparing service areas, maintaining inventory and cleanliness, processing transactions, checking food orders, assisting with food preparation, and following food safety, sanitation, and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

• Able to read, write, and understand the English language.
• At least 1 year of food and/or customer service experience.
• Hold an ANSI-accredited Texas Food Handler or Food Manager certification, or be a Certified Food Manager from the San Antonio Metropolitan Health District.

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Previous cashier and customer service experience.

Responsibilities

• Promote customer service and build rapport with customers in the cafeteria or coffee shop.
• Set up the cafeteria or coffee shop for service.
• Stock the cafeteria or coffee shop to maintain appropriate inventory levels.
• Operate the cash register.
• Check transactions and food orders for content and portion size.
• Maintain cleanliness of the cafeteria or coffee shop.
• Perform cash closeout procedures according to established procedures.
• Ensure timely service.
• Chop, slice, and peel food items for special-order foods.
• Function as a grill cook if needed.
• Follow BHS safety, sanitation, and HACCP standards.
• Ensure foods are correctly labeled, dated, and rotated when handled and put away.
• Transport food to other areas as needed.
• Operate, clean, and sanitize dishes and necessary equipment.
• Sweep and mop department areas.
• Follow local, state, and federal regulations.
• Use resources efficiently and effectively.
• Maintain a safe environment.
• Participate in Performance Improvement activities.
