About The Position

The Cashier performs cash-handling functions and serves customers in a cafeteria and/or coffee shop, helping build positive customer satisfaction. The role supports food-service operations by preparing and stocking service areas, processing transactions, checking food orders, maintaining cleanliness, and following safety and sanitation standards. Other related duties may be assigned.

Requirements

Able to read, write, and understand English.
At least 1 year of food-service and/or customer-service experience.
Required certification: ANSI-accredited Texas Food Handler course or ANSI-accredited Food Manager course, or Certified Food Manager certification from the San Antonio Metropolitan Health District.

Nice To Haves

High school graduate or equivalent.
Previous cashier and customer-service experience.

Responsibilities

Promote customer service and build rapport with cafeteria and coffee shop customers.
Set up and stock the cafeteria or coffee shop, maintaining appropriate inventory levels.
Operate the cash register and perform cash closeout procedures according to established procedures.
Check transactions and food orders for content and portion size, and ensure timely service.
Maintain cleanliness of the cafeteria or coffee shop; sweep and mop department areas.
Chop, slice, and peel food items for special orders, and function as a grill cook when needed.
Follow BHS safety, sanitation, and HACCP standards, as well as local, state, and federal regulations.
Ensure foods are correctly labeled, dated, and rotated when handled and put away.
Transport food to other areas as needed.
Operate, clean, and sanitize dishes and necessary equipment.
Use resources efficiently and effectively and maintain a safe environment.
Participate in Performance Improvement activities.
