About The Position

The Cashier serves customers promptly and courteously, helping enhance AC&T’s image and make each shopping experience profitable and pleasurable. The role is in the C-Store department and reports to the Store Manager. The cashier is accountable to the Supervisor or Manager on a shift-to-shift basis and maintains contact with the Store Manager. The cashier follows company policies and procedures, maintains customer service, inventory, store cleanliness and merchandising, and safeguards money, equipment, records and other assigned company property. The role also includes vendor control, operating store equipment, serving food, and complying with applicable state and federal regulations for alcohol, tobacco, lottery sales and food service. The cashier must report emergencies or accidents promptly. The position does not have authority to set or change prices, alter merchandise or vendors, make cash expenditures, or obligate the company through contracts or other commitments.

Requirements

Be at least 18 years old or have a work permit.
Be able to speak, read, understand and write English.
Be able to perform mathematical calculations for making change, completing shift reports and accounting for products during vendor check-in.
Have sufficient visual sharpness to check customer identification when necessary.
Be able to read and understand instructions for operating electronic cash registers and other equipment.
Be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds at least once per shift.
Be able to stock shelves and coolers.
Be able to serve food from a food case maintained at a minimum of 140°F.
Be able to respond to a fire by lifting and moving a 20-pound fire extinguisher.
Be able to bend and pull up a 20-pound metal plate from the underground storage tank.
Be able to tolerate exposure to gasoline fumes and cleaning products.
Be able to climb a ladder to clean windows.
Be able to sweep and mop floors, dust shelves, and lift and carry trash containers to an outside bin.
Be able to clean bathrooms, including floors, sinks and toilets, and clean the parking lot and surrounding grounds.
Be able to enter and work in a 38°F cooler for up to 15 minutes at a time.
Be able to communicate by telephone and/or store intercom.
Be willing to work weekends, holidays and extended hours when necessary.

Responsibilities

Maintain proper customer relations and provide courteous service.
Maintain contact with the Store Manager and follow authorized store hours.
Follow store procedures and policies, including security, reporting and check-cashing procedures.
Maintain inventory control and vendor control during the shift.
Safeguard money, equipment, store records and other assigned AC&T property.
Follow guidelines established by the Manager when consistent with company policies.
Maintain a clean, well-merchandised store according to the Store Manager’s standards.
Comply with state and federal laws governing alcohol and tobacco sales and lottery ticket sales and redemption, as well as state food-service regulations.
Abide by company rules and regulations.
Report emergencies and accidents immediately to the Store Manager.
Stock shelves and coolers; serve food from the food case; and perform cleaning duties in the store, bathrooms, parking lot and surrounding grounds.
Work weekends, holidays and extended hours when necessary.
