About The Position

A Cashier in the Front-End department provides customer service that exceeds customer expectations while accurately handling sales transactions. The role reports to the Customer Service Manager and is classified as nonexempt. Cashiers maintain accurate cash drawers, follow accounting procedures for voids, returns, exchanges, and department transfers, and comply with applicable liquor and tobacco laws, including verifying acceptable identification. They are expected to demonstrate a positive, can-do attitude, treat customers and coworkers with respect, and adapt readily to workplace changes.

Requirements

High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
Ability to speak effectively with customers and staff members.
Ability to stand for long periods, walk, reach, bend, frequently use wrists and hands, and handle or feel objects, tools, or controls.
Frequently bend at the waist and reach into customers’ grocery carts to collect merchandise.
Occasionally climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
Frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Close and color vision.

Responsibilities

Accurately record prices and collect payments.
Balance the cash drawer accurately.
Follow correct accounting procedures for voids, returns, exchanges, and department transfers.
Collect cash, checks, and charge payments accurately, and make change for cash transactions when required.
Verify identification for authenticity and signature when processing checks and credit card purchases.
Follow liquor and tobacco laws, including verifying valid, acceptable identification.
Provide exceptional customer service that exceeds customer expectations.
Treat others with respect, maintain a positive can-do attitude, and adjust to changes in the workplace.
