About The Position

The Cashier is responsible for efficiently processing customer sales transactions at the front registers, maintaining control of cash, ensuring customer satisfaction, and safeguarding company assets. Cashiers assist customers as needed, maintain a friendly and energetic demeanor, and follow all Front End Department procedures. The role includes reviewing promotional and sale items before each shift, conducting produce walks and weekly testing, operating the point-of-sale system, and keeping checkout areas clean and orderly. Team members may be asked to perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalency degree.
Maintain the highest level of customer service.
Adapt to high-volume retail and work in a cross-functional team environment.
Take initiative when problems arise and adapt to varied situations.
Strong attention to detail and ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
Excellent written communication and documentation skills.
Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills for working across functions with peers and senior management.
Knowledge of MS Office, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
Ability to multitask and strong organizational skills.
Ability to support and contribute to team goals.
Ability to work varied hours and days as business dictates.
Basic knowledge of math, weights, and measures.
Ability to use a Point of Sale (POS) system.

Nice To Haves

Preferred 1–2 years of grocery retail experience with Front End department processes and procedures.
Previous experience in the natural foods industry is a plus.

Responsibilities

Walk the store before each shift to review promotional and sale items, conduct a produce walk, and complete weekly testing.
Compute bills, itemized lists, and tickets showing amounts due.
Accept payments by cash, check, credit card, gift card, or automatic debit.
Issue receipts, refunds, credits, rain checks, coupons, and change due to customers.
Operate the cash register, scan price-coded items, manually enter PLU or UPC information, and display purchase costs, tax, and rebates.
Greet customers entering the store and respond promptly to their needs.
Maintain clean, orderly checkout areas and ensure personal items are not kept there.
Perform other duties as assigned.
