About The Position

The Cashier is responsible for efficiently processing customer sales transactions at front registers. The role requires maintaining proper control of cash, ensuring customer satisfaction, safeguarding company assets, assisting customers, and maintaining a friendly, energetic demeanor while following Front End Department procedural guidelines. Cashiers work in a fast-paced retail grocery environment and may need to work varied hours and days as business dictates. The position generally starts at $14.50–$16.00 per hour, with raises in accordance with Fresh Thyme Market policy. The actual rate offered will meet or exceed the legal wage requirement for the job’s location. Requirements

High school diploma or equivalency degree.
Maintain the highest level of customer service.
Ability to adapt to a changing, high-volume retail environment while working in a cross-functional team.
Ability to take initiative when problems arise and adapt to a variety of situations.
Advanced attention to detail and the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
Excellent written communication and documentation skills.

Knowledge of MS Office, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
Ability to multitask and strong organizational skills.
Ability to support and contribute to team goals.
Ability to work varied hours and days as business dictates.
Basic knowledge of math, weights, and measures.
Ability to use a Point of Sale (POS) system.

Nice To Haves

One to two years of grocery retail experience in Front End department processes and procedures is preferred.
Previous experience in the natural foods industry is a plus.

Responsibilities

Walk the store before each shift to learn promotional and sale items; perform produce walks and weekly testing.
Compute bills and prepare itemized lists and tickets showing amounts due.
Receive payments by cash, check, credit card, gift card, or automatic debit.
Issue receipts, refunds, credits, rain checks, and change due to customers.
Operate the cash register and electronic scanner; manually enter PLU or UPC information when needed and display purchase costs, tax, and rebates.
Greet customers entering the store and respond promptly to their needs.
Maintain clean and orderly checkout areas and ensure personal items are not left in the area.
Issue coupons and rain checks.
Perform other duties as assigned.
