Requirements

  • High School/GED; some college accounting courses.
  • Two years hospital or related Accounts Payable or purchasing experience.
  • Two years payroll experience with thorough knowledge of California wage and hour law is required.
  • Basic understanding of accounting principles.
  • Ten key by touch, typing (at least 35 wpm)

Responsibilities

  • Ensuring bills and payroll are paid in a timely and accurate manner while adhering to departmental procedures.
  • Reviews for proper approvals and account numbers.
  • Reviews and prepares checks for mailing.
  • Establishing and maintaining relationships with new and existing vendors.
  • Contacts vendors to resolve problems and reconciles vendor statements.
  • Manages accounts payable using accounting software and other programs.
  • Handling accounts payable for separate entities and vendors.
  • Maintains payroll files and individual employee files for new hires, revisions, deductions, garnishments, benefit accruals, and terminations.
  • Checks and audits timekeeping records and payroll input documents for conformance with wage and hours standards and company policies.
  • Maintains records, recording the accumulation and use of vacation, miscellaneous leaves of absence, including computation of major sick benefits integrated with benefits paid by State Disability Insurance.
  • Completes payroll related correspondence, including employment verifications for government agencies etc., and correspondence with employees and business office staff regarding payroll issues.
  • Prepares various spreadsheets related to operations of the payroll department.
  • Assists in preparation of state and federal payroll tax deposits.
  • Assists in data collection and research projects for Human Resources and facility staff.
  • Assists accounting staff in resolving General Ledger problems and reconciliation of payroll checks to bank statements.
  • Responsible for thorough understanding of payroll and automated time and attendance systems, and thorough understanding of wage and hour laws and laws government deductions and garnishment of employee wages.
