About The Position

The Cart Clerk gathers carts from the parking lot and store, provides friendly and courteous customer service, and performs other related work. Duties include gathering carts manually and with a remote-controlled cart pusher, guiding and assembling carts, picking up litter, emptying recycling machine containers into the proper bins, and maneuvering or stacking bins for pickup. The role requires working outdoors in varying weather, staying aware of parking-lot safety, and performing physical tasks such as standing, walking, pushing, pulling, reaching, bending, and lifting.

Requirements

• Must be at least 16 years of age.
• Consistently provide friendly, courteous service to internal and external customers.
• Work varied hours primarily between 7:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m. in a 24/7 operation, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Walk, push, pull, and maneuver grocery carts weighing up to 100 pounds occasionally.
• Reach in front of the body and bend to pick up items at ground level.
• Stand, walk, and move rapidly for long periods of time.
• Work outdoors in cold, hot, and inclement weather.
• Maintain awareness of surroundings for parking-lot safety and see carts that need to be gathered.
• Demonstrate customer-relations skills and learn safety and department policies and procedures.
• Hear audible requests, including pages and customer questions.
• Lift up to 40 pounds often from floor level to 6 feet high and maneuver up to 100 pounds occasionally.
• Wear a reflective vest while outside.
• Perform primary duties efficiently and accurately.
• Have a Food Handlers Certification as required by state law.

Responsibilities

• Welcome, engage, serve, and thank customers, maintaining a friendly and enthusiastic customer-service atmosphere.
• Gather, guide, assemble, and organize carts manually and with a remote-controlled cart pusher, including collecting stray carts from the store.
• Pick up litter from the grounds, planters, and cart room.
• Empty recycling machine containers into the proper glass, aluminum, and plastic bins.
• Maneuver and stack bins for pickup.
• Perform other duties as assigned or needed.
