About The Position

The Cart Clerk gathers carts from the parking lot and store, using manual methods and a remote-controlled cart pusher. The role provides friendly, courteous customer service to internal and external customers, picks up litter, empties recycling containers into the appropriate bins, and maneuvers bins for pickup. Other related duties may be assigned as needed. Employees must comply with company policies and applicable laws; responsibilities and qualifications may vary.

Requirements

• Consistently provide friendly, courteous service to internal and external customers.
• Work varied hours primarily between 7:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m. in a 24/7 operation, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Walk, push, pull, and maneuver grocery carts weighing up to 100 pounds occasionally.
• Reach in front and bend to pick up items at ground level.
• Stand, walk, and move rapidly for long periods of time.
• Work outdoors in cold, hot, and inclement weather conditions.
• Maintain awareness of surroundings for safety in the parking lot and notice carts needing to be gathered.
• Exhibit customer-relations skills.
• Learn safety and department policies and procedures.
• Hear audible requests, including pages and customers asking questions.
• Lift up to 40 pounds often, from floor level to 6 feet high, and maneuver up to 100 pounds occasionally.
• Wear a reflective vest while outside.
• Be at least 16 years of age.
• Perform primary duties efficiently and accurately.
• Obtain Food Handlers Certification as required by state law.

Responsibilities

• Welcome, engage, serve, and thank customers while maintaining a friendly, enthusiastic customer-service atmosphere.
• Gather, guide, assemble, and return carts using manual methods and a remote-controlled cart pusher.
• Pick up litter from the grounds, planters, and cart room.
• Gather stray carts inside the store.
• Empty recycling machine containers into the appropriate glass, aluminum, and plastic bins.
• Maneuver and stack bins for pickup.
• Perform other duties as assigned or needed.
