About The Position
The Caregiver enhances the SRIM experience by providing heartfelt care to residents and their families and demonstrating the organization’s Golden Rule core value. The role supports residents’ daily living needs, including activities of daily living, meal service, light housekeeping, and laundry, while encouraging independence. Caregivers help maintain a clean, safe, orderly, and dignified environment and communicate respectfully with residents, families, visitors, and associates. The position also involves observing and reporting changes in residents’ health or emotional well-being, responding to requests for assistance, participating in resident activities, and following community policies, safety procedures, and HIPAA requirements. Caregivers may assist with training and mentoring new employees and take on additional assignments as needed.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED, one to two years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos, and to write simple correspondence.
- Ability to present information effectively in one-on-one and small-group situations.
- Ability to apply common-sense understanding to detailed but straightforward written or oral instructions and address problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Ability to meet the physical demands of the job, including occasionally lifting and/or moving up to 50 pounds.
Responsibilities
- Assist residents with activities of daily living, including dressing, grooming, peri-care, toileting, and hygiene.
- Interact with residents at all levels of care with empathy, kindness, compassion, and respect.
- Observe residents and report changes in their health or emotional well-being to a supervisor.
- Serve and assist residents during breakfast, lunch, and dinner in the dining room.
- Initiate and participate in leisure activities listed on the activity calendar.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly environment and perform daily housekeeping duties according to established schedules.
- Provide housekeeping and laundry services to maintain the community in a clean and sanitary condition.
- Respond promptly and courteously to residents’ requests, phone calls, and requests from family members and visitors.
- Communicate effectively in a language each resident can understand.
- Ensure residents or responsible parties sign residents out when they leave the community.
- Identify and report safety hazards, use safe working habits and body mechanics, and help maintain a secure environment.
- Follow established policies and procedures in emergency situations and serve as essential personnel during emergencies or inclement weather, remaining at the community until released by a supervisor.
- Work cooperatively with associates and management and maintain a positive, respectful attitude.
- Comply with attendance and call-off policies, participate in trainings, in-service sessions, and mandatory meetings, and follow the dress code.
- Refer family and visitor inquiries about resident care to the immediate supervisor and comply with HIPAA regulations.
- Assist with training and mentoring new employees.
- Take initiative, seek additional information, offer solutions and suggestions, and accept special projects or assignments outside regular duties.
- Perform other reasonable duties as assigned or requested.
