About The Position

Under the supervision of the College of Health and Human Services Director of Career and Professional Success, the Rural Health Career Advisor is a grant-funded position designed to support undergraduate, graduate students, and alumni across the University System of New Hampshire (USNH) in exploring and pursuing careers across a broad range of health professions in rural regions of New Hampshire. The advisor provides individualized guidance and pathway development support to help students identify health career options, gain relevant experiential learning opportunities, and successfully prepare for admission to graduate, professional, certification, and licensure programs. The position works collaboratively with faculty, alumni, healthcare partners, and community organizations to create opportunities that increase awareness of health professions careers, strengthen student preparation, and support workforce development goals.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in health sciences, public health, education, counseling, social sciences, student affairs, healthcare administration, or a related field.
Experience in academic advising, career advising, student support services, healthcare workforce development, health professions education, or a related field.
Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, healthcare professionals, community partners, and diverse student populations.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Experience using technology platforms and databases to support student success and program tracking.
Organizational skills and the ability to follow directions.
Demonstrated interest, ability and/or experience promoting cultural competency, universal accessibility, and/or diversity.
Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills.
Flexible and able to adapt to a dynamic environment based on changing policies, procedures and clinical needs.
Able to balance multiple tasks simultaneously.

Nice To Haves

Master's degree in counseling, higher education, public health, health professions education, student affairs, or a related field.
Knowledge of pathways to graduate, professional, certification, and licensure-based health professions.
Experience supporting students through graduate or professional school admissions processes.
Experience with student success technologies, CRM systems, data tracking, and grant reporting.
Experience coordinating events and stakeholder engagement activities.

Responsibilities

Meet individually and in group settings with students and alumni interested in health professions careers.
Assist students in exploring health-related career pathways and licensed and certified health professions.
Guide students in assessing their interests, strengths, values, and professional goals and connecting them to appropriate academic and career pathways.
Advise students on prerequisite coursework, experiential learning opportunities, and preparation for graduate and professional school admission.
Support students in identifying and securing internships, clinical experiences, volunteer opportunities, job shadowing, research experiences, and community engagement activities relevant to health professions.
Assist students with developing competitive applications for graduate and professional programs, including personal statements, resumes, interview preparation, and application strategies.
Help students develop individualized action plans that support progression toward professional certification, licensure, and advanced educational attainment.
Maintain records of advising activities and student outcomes in accordance with grant requirements.
Develop and deliver workshops, seminars, classroom presentations, and educational programming focused on health professions exploration and readiness.
Support events that connect students with health professionals, alumni, employers, graduate programs, and professional associations.
Organize networking events, panel discussions, career exploration programs, and graduate/professional school information sessions.
Collaborate with academic departments and student support offices to develop health professions pathway programming.
Create resources and educational materials that support student awareness of health careers and post-baccalaureate educational opportunities.
Collect and report program data and outcomes required by funding agencies and institutional leadership.
Develop and maintain relationships with academic partners beyond the University System of New Hampshire.
Develop and maintain relationships with healthcare organizations, employers, professional associations, graduate and professional schools, and community partners.
Collaborate with faculty and academic advisors to support student development and pathway planning.
Engage alumni and healthcare professionals as mentors, guest speakers, and networking contacts for students.
Assist with tracking partner engagement, student participation, and program outcomes through university databases and reporting systems.
Performs other duties as assigned
