About The Position

The advisor will meet with undergraduate students during scheduled and walk-in appointments; communicates with undergraduate students on advising issues; participates in Master Advising professional development training; generates and disseminates student reports; works within the HRIS system to review student information and help students register for classes; and serves on committees within the department and across the university. Provide academic advising to new freshmen, undecided/exploring, under-prepared students and probationary students at Northern Kentucky University. Provide follow-up with at risk students by effectively managing advising caseloads. Assist with the planning and delivery of academic orientation programs. Create presentations for students and other professionals on campus. Implement the office’s assessment plan for teaching advising student learning outcomes and maintain accurate and up-to-date student records. Participate in university-sponsored professional development programs, the National Academic Advising Association and the Kentucky Academic Advising Association. Serve on university committees as assigned by the director.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • Minimum of two years academic advising experience in a higher education setting.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Exceptional communication skills.
  • Ability to articulate an understanding of student development theory.
  • Experience working with diverse student populations, especially at-risk and undecided/exploring students.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Dependable vehicle required.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in College Student Personnel, Counseling, Communication, Education, or other academic discipline with experience in academic advising.
