The Care Partner is a support care provider who works under the direction of the Registered Nurse. The role focuses on promoting a positive patient experience by collaborating with nurses, physicians, the healthcare team, and other providers, and by assisting patients with activities of daily living and comfort measures. Care Partners provide safe, age-appropriate, culturally aware basic care, including assistance with daily living activities, ambulation, and vital signs. Depending on unit needs and approved training, duties may also include phlebotomy, simple treatments, dressing changes, oral suctioning, and discontinuing Foley catheters, as well as other advanced skills required to support clinical care. The position also includes clerical and support tasks such as retrieving data, maintaining unit supplies, and transporting supplies, patient medications, and equipment. Care Partners work in a fast-paced environment requiring multitasking, effective communication, organization, compassion, and the ability to take direction from multiple care providers and perform under stressful conditions. Care Partners partner with patients, families, and the healthcare team to support the plan of care, protect patient rights and dignity, maintain confidentiality, and contribute to safety and quality initiatives. They communicate and document patient care, respond to patient needs, maintain equipment and a clean, safe care environment, and follow infection-control and Wellstar policies.
