About The Position

OSF HealthCare is seeking an experienced advanced practice nurse or physician assistant to join their adult cardiovascular surgery critical care team. This team member will work solely in a busy cardiovascular intensive care unit. This individual collaborates with the interdisciplinary team and closely with physicians and surgeons to serve as a key team member in a 24-hour-directed multidisciplinary model in a 32-bed adult heart unit. The high-acuity ICU desires individuals with experience in managing complex post operative adult cardiac surgery patients, including heart transplants, mechanical circulatory support (Impella, IABP), ventricular assist devices (VAD) and ECMO. The position requires experience as an APP in cardiology, preferably CV surgery. Weekend and holiday rotations are required. APPs work together to make their own schedule. As the flagship medical center for one of the largest Catholic healthcare systems in the United States, OSF Saint Francis Medical Center is the area’s only Level 1 Trauma Center. It is home to the Children’s Hospital of Illinois, and University of Illinois College of Medicine residency and fellowship training programs.

Requirements

Licensed to provide Advanced Practice Nurse Services or Physician Assistant Services
Licensed by the Federal Drug Enforcement Administration and State of Illinois for prescribing of narcotics
Experience as an APP in cardiology (preferably CV surgery)
Experience in managing complex post operative adult cardiac surgery patients, including heart transplants, mechanical circulatory support (Impella, IABP), ventricular assist devices (VAD) and ECMO.
Weekend and holiday rotations are required.

Responsibilities

Performs a variety of advanced nursing / physician assistant functions according to professional standards of care.
Provides patient care that is appropriate to the ages of the patients served.
Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team and closely with physicians and surgeons.
Manages complex post operative adult cardiac surgery patients, including heart transplants, mechanical circulatory support (Impella, IABP), ventricular assist devices (VAD) and ECMO.
