About The Position

Cincinnati Children's (CCHMC) is seeking a standby Congenital Heart Surgeon to join the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery. This division is dedicated to providing advanced surgical care for children with cardiothoracic conditions, with established research and innovation efforts in basic science, 3D modeling, virtual surgery, and outcome/translational research. The division collaborates with Cardiology, Molecular Cardiovascular Biology, and other departments within CCHMC's Heart Institute. The faculty appointment is with the University of Cincinnati (UC). This role involves supporting CCHMC's partnered hospital systems, such as Akron Children’s Hospital, Kentucky Children’s Hospital, and Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital, as a network surgeon. The candidate will be able to reside anywhere but must be available to report to a partner site within 72 hours. The position supports the growth of the Heart Network and involves direct work with the Chief Cardiothoracic Surgeon at each partner location. Assignments will vary in duration and notice period, including vacation coverage, on-call shifts, monthly shifts, longer-term coverage, or ongoing assignments, depending on the needs of the partner sites. Compensation will be based on time worked.

Requirements

  • Must hold an MD/DO degree, or equivalent.
  • Current active unrestricted medical license.
  • Associate/Full Professor appointment.
  • Board Certified/Eligible in Cardiothoracic Surgery and Congenital Heart Surgery or the international equivalent.
  • Appropriate medical credentialing through the Medical Staff Services office.
  • Completion of all required CCHMC pre-employment activities (screening, background check, badging and orientation).
  • Must disclose any official disciplinary actions by a hospital, specialty board, medical association, or government agency.

Responsibilities

  • Operate as a stand-by network surgeon supporting Cincinnati Children’s partnered hospital systems.
  • Support the development and growth of the Heart Network with CCHMC.
  • Directly work with the Chief Cardiothoracic Surgeon at each Heart Network location.
  • Provide coverage for various durations and notice periods, including vacation coverage, weekend and holiday on-call shifts, monthly shifts, or extended assignments.
  • Participate in research efforts within the Congenital Heart Surgery lab.
