About The Position

Patients with life-threatening heart and chest disease need a surgeon who decides clearly, operates with precision, and owns the result through recovery. This role exists to deliver safe, excellent cardiothoracic care and to strengthen the program around you. Success is measured in lives preserved, complications avoided, and a service others trust when the case is hard.

Requirements

  • MD or DO with ACGME-accredited cardiothoracic surgery training.
  • Board certified or board eligible in thoracic surgery, with eligibility to obtain an unrestricted state license.
  • Independent experience in the practice mix you will cover, which may include CABG, valve surgery, and general thoracic procedures.
  • A record of outcomes you can discuss, and willingness to report them through national registries.
  • Ability to take call, operate under time pressure, and direct a multidisciplinary team.
  • Clear communication with patients, families, and colleagues when risk is high and choices are limited.

Responsibilities

  • Perform adult cardiac and thoracic surgery with risk-adjusted mortality, major morbidity, and length of stay at or better than national benchmarks.
  • Own each patient’s course from consult to discharge, aligning cardiology, anesthesia, ICU, and rehabilitation so nothing critical is dropped.
  • Grow appropriate surgical volume in agreed service lines without sacrificing access, call reliability, or quality.
  • Cut preventable harm—reoperation for bleeding, prolonged ventilation, sternal or wound infection—through protocol adherence and timely case review.
  • Lead OR, ICU, and APP teams so standards hold on your cases and on backup.
  • Use registry and internal outcome data to change practice within the quarter, not after the annual report.
  • Improve block use and case readiness with perioperative leaders so the right patient reaches the right room on time.
