About The Position

The Cafe Cook maintains café operations and attends to the food and beverage needs of residents, guests, and employees at The Chesapeake, a luxury retirement community in Newport News, Virginia. The role includes promptly obtaining and preparing orders; preparing and serving café menu items; maintaining food quality, portion control, sanitation, and safety; and keeping the café and kitchen areas clean and orderly. The posting also describes cold-food preparation and daily salad-bar setup.

Responsibilities

• Maintain the operations of the café.
• Attend to the food and beverage needs of residents, guests, and employees.
• Promptly obtain and prepare orders.
• Maintain high standards of food quality and portion control during preparation and service.
• Follow provided menus and make changes only with a supervisor’s consent.
• Prepare and serve sandwiches and salads according to café recipes.
• Prepare and serve baked goods, hot cereals, breakfast items, and grilled items.
• Follow daily and weekly duties.
• Prepare and serve sufficient quantities of food at the proper time to meet service requirements.
• Maintain proper sanitation and safety in food preparation areas.
• Keep the café area clean, neat, and orderly.
• Operate and maintain the cash register and handle café income.
• Maintain professionalism when not assisting customers and avoid non-work-related activities.
• Participate in cleaning the cooking area and other kitchen equipment and facilities.
• Prepare cold foods and desserts and set up the salad bar daily.
