About The Position

The Café Cook maintains café operations at The Chesapeake, a luxury retirement community in Newport News, Virginia. The role serves residents, guests, and employees by promptly preparing orders and providing food and beverages. The cook prepares and serves menu items—including sandwiches, salads, baked goods, hot cereals, breakfast items, and grilled items—according to café recipes and service requirements. The position also maintains food quality, portion control, sanitation, safety, and cleanliness, and operates and maintains the cash register while handling café income.

Responsibilities

Maintain the operations of the café.
Attend to the food and beverage needs of residents, guests, and employees.
Obtain and prepare orders promptly.
Maintain high standards of food quality and portion control during preparation and service.
Follow provided menus and make changes only with the supervisor's consent.
Make, prepare, and serve sandwiches and salads according to café recipes.
Make, prepare, and serve baked goods, hot cereals, breakfast items, and grilled items.
Follow daily and weekly duties.
Prepare and serve sufficient quantities of food at the proper time to meet service requirements.
Maintain proper sanitation and safety in food preparation areas.
Keep the café area clean, neat, and orderly.
Operate and maintain the cash register and handle café income.
Maintain professionalism when not assisting customers and avoid non-work-related activities.
Participate in cleaning the cooking area and other kitchen equipment and facilities.
