About The Position

Prepares and/or retherms food for hospital patients, visitors, and employees according to standard recipes and guidelines. The role applies basic knowledge and advanced skills in food preparation and patient care; duties may be complex and non-routine. The employee works under general supervision, resolves most issues, and refers the most complex issues to a supervisor. The impact of the work is limited to the department or service line.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED preferred.
Extensive communication, customer interaction, and teamwork skills.
Successfully complete position orientation and competency validation.
Ability to multitask and perform assigned duties.
For areas where the employee is deemed in charge of departmental operations, SERV-Safe certification or equivalent Virginia Health Department certification is required, or the ability to obtain certification within the first year in the position.

Nice To Haves

One to three years of commercial or institutional food preparation experience.
Keyboarding or computer skills for automated computer systems.
Knowledge of food safety and sanitation.

Responsibilities

Prepare food according to standard recipes and/or standard retherm processes.
Complete required documentation, including temperature logs.
Participate in department activities and meetings, which may include orienting co-workers and supporting patient/customer satisfaction, cost reduction, and inspection readiness initiatives.
Complete assigned general food service tasks, which may include cashiering, tray assembly and/or delivery, and dishwashing with related cleaning.
Perform cleaning and other duties as assigned.
