About The Position

The C-Store Clerk handles daily convenience store and gas station operations while providing friendly, efficient customer service. The role includes assisting customers, maintaining clean and orderly indoor and outdoor areas, receiving and stocking merchandise, and carrying out general store tasks. Clerk duties also include operating the cash register and lottery equipment, processing payments and promotions, and preparing and handling food in accordance with health, safety, sanitation, and freshness standards. The position requires dependability, flexibility, teamwork, and attention to workplace safety. Work is primarily in a climate-controlled setting, with occasional outdoor work in extreme heat or cold. No travel is required.

Requirements

Enrolled in or graduated from high school, or has a GED.
No specific experience is required.
Ability to exert 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally and perform significant walking, standing, bending, kneeling, and lifting.
Dependability, including punctuality and adherence to work schedules and attendance policies.
Customer service skills and commitment to meeting customer needs.
Flexibility in responding to new ideas, changes, information, and assignments.
Ability to cooperate and work effectively with others.

Responsibilities

Greet customers and provide prompt, efficient, friendly service, including by phone and at the gas pumps.
Help customers find, secure, load, or unload products.
Keep interior and exterior stations clean and orderly, including restrooms, countertops, floors, registers, break room, and backroom.
Receive, verify, and store delivered merchandise in the appropriate areas.
Unpack and stock shelves and coolers as directed.
Maintain the lot and surrounding areas by shoveling snow, spreading ice melt, and hosing down the parking lot, pump area, and sidewalks.
Fill outside towel holders and replenish or refresh window washer fluid.
Remove indoor and outdoor trash in a timely manner.
Assist with training new employees as needed and perform other duties as assigned.
Operate lottery ticket registers to verify winnings or sell tickets.
Operate the cash register accurately, scan products where applicable, and report improper cash levels in the drawer.
Process promotional coupons, food stamps, cash, checks, credit-card transactions, and in-store charges; calculate discounts, count back change, and issue receipts.
Bag or box merchandise and give packages to customers.
Cook food using ovens, stoves, griddles, and microwaves.
Prepare ingredients by chopping, peeling, cutting, and performing other preparation tasks.
Follow food health and safety standards, display food properly, monitor expiration dates, and dispose of outdated food.
Follow sanitation procedures, keep the work area clean and neat, and store food properly when not in use.
Comply with workplace and trade safety requirements and identify and correct unsafe conditions as needed.
