This is a foundation course in law that aims to introduce the student to the fundamental concepts of the common law. It comprises a study of the Canadian legal system, principles of statutory interpretation, the role of precedent in judicial decisions, the basic elements of contract law, negligence and product liability, and certain important concepts in property law such as land tenure, mortgages, landlords and tenant and personal property. The course is taught in English and has an expected enrollment of 80 students. The teaching mode will be delivered in person, but may change due to health measures or other reasons. The academic year runs from September 1 to August 31.
