About The Position

This full-time, permanent position is based in Victoria and operates remotely. The role is designed to drive business growth by identifying new market opportunities and converting them into long-term partnerships. The Business Development Specialist will be responsible for leading outbound campaigns, conducting market research, building relationships with prospective customers and industry influencers, and managing opportunities from initial contact through to contract signature. This role involves close collaboration with marketing, technical sales, and customer success teams to ensure a smooth transition once a customer is secured.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of experience in a Business Development role, ideally within SaaS, focused on delivering solutions related to higher education or health professional education.
  • Digital transformation exposure utilising SaaS solutions and services.
  • Proven understanding of commercial decision-making, with experience negotiating with prospective customers.
  • Ability to build a pipeline of qualified opportunities and continuously identify and develop areas for strategic growth.
  • Ability to demonstrate a deep understanding of a customer’s high-level strategy and objectives, and translate customer challenges into value-based solutions.
  • Collaborative approach to sales and relationship building, working routinely with technical sales, marketing, subject matter experts, and the development team.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to devise commercial, technical, and creative solutions alongside team members.
  • Clear, concise, and consistent communication in written and spoken English, both internally and externally.
  • Self-starting initiative, with the ability to execute against commercial strategies and manage multiple customers simultaneously.
  • Strong time management skills, including prioritizing tasks, setting goals, and allocating time wisely.
  • Proactive, positive, can-do attitude suited to a self-managed, remote working culture.
  • A curious, experimental relationship with AI, with the ability to try things, reflect, and embed learnings into work practices.

  • Experience building networks and working within the higher education or health sector.
  • Knowledge of the Australian and New Zealand education and business landscape, trends, challenges, opportunities, buying styles, and behaviours.
  • Experience with Monday.com for information sharing and process oversight.

Responsibilities

  • Lead generation through outbound campaigns, direct outreach, and industry events.
  • Conduct market research to identify new market opportunities and potential customer groups.
  • Build and establish connections with potential customers and industry influencers.
  • Manage opportunities from first contact through to contract signature.
  • Prepare tailored commercial proposals and work with the Technical Sales team on bid proposals.
  • Represent the company at industry events, conferences, trade shows, and networking events.
  • Collaborate with the marketing team to develop and lead sales campaigns.
  • Work with Business Development colleagues on sales campaigns and overall strategy.
  • Partner with Account and Relationship Management teams to share insights and nurture opportunities.
  • Ensure a smooth transition for customers to the Customer Success team by documenting and communicating key details.
  • Build and maintain close relationships within a self-managed team.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of the platform, products, and key differentiators.
  • Provide internal insights on market needs and trends to inform product development.
  • Achieve targets for new customer acquisition and contribute to overall revenue growth.
  • Maintain an accurate and up-to-date sales pipeline in the CRM.
  • Provide regular updates on business development activities and outcomes.
