Business Development Representative (BDR)

Royalty Exchange•Denver, CO
•$85,000 - $100,000•Onsite

About The Position

Royalty Exchange is hiring an entry-level Business Development Representative for its Sales and Valuations team. The BDR is often the first point of contact for songwriters, artists, and producers interested in converting the value of their music catalogs into capital. The role focuses on identifying suitable sellers, understanding their catalogs and goals, and preparing qualified prospects for calls with Artist Relations Managers (VPs), who manage deals through closing. The BDR develops a pipeline through inbound interest, nurture and outbound campaigns, and independently sourced leads. The position involves frequent communication with working creatives and the managers and attorneys who represent them. The BDR works directly with the VPs of Sales and Valuations, learns the catalog-sale process by shadowing calls, and gradually takes ownership of lead flow. Strong performers may advance to Artist Relations Manager and manage and close their own pipeline. The role is based in Denver and is in-office five days a week. Compensation includes a $60,000 base salary and on-target earnings of $85,000 to $100,000, with commission tied to qualified meetings booked and sourced deals that close. Employee stock options, insurance, a 401(k), paid time off, and sick leave are also offered.

Requirements

  • 0–2 years of experience in sales, customer-facing roles, or business development.
  • Comfort with phone conversations and persistent follow-up, including voicemails and responses such as “not right now.”
  • Ability to read people and adapt communication to different prospects, including nervous first-time sellers and skeptical managers.
  • Curiosity about how money moves in the music business and willingness to learn royalty sources, intellectual property rights, and royalty statement formats.
  • Organization and discipline in CRM use.
  • Coachable, competitive, and motivated by meeting targets.

Nice To Haves

  • HubSpot experience.
  • Familiarity with music publishing, performing rights organizations (PROs), or streaming royalties.

Responsibilities

  • Book qualified calls by filling the VPs’ calendars with suitable prospects who are ready to discuss a deal.
  • Qualify inbound and outbound leads by learning what a seller owns, what it earns, and what the seller wants; set clear expectations before the VP’s first call.
  • Follow up with stale inbound leads, dormant contacts, and past sellers, and research and contact new prospects by phone, email, and social media.
  • Prepare sellers for sales calls by explaining the catalog-sale process at a high level, answering early questions, and beginning to collect royalty statements for the VP and Valuations Team.
  • Execute and improve outbound and nurture campaigns, keeping prospects engaged through sales cycles that may last months.
  • Build relationships with artist managers, attorneys, and business managers who may become ongoing sources of sellers.
  • Record calls, emails, and handoffs in HubSpot so VPs have accurate prospect context.
  • Track activity, calls booked, and sourced pipeline for weekly leadership metrics.
