About The Position

This role is responsible for preparing batches of gravy ingredients and/or super-micros for the kitchen according to approved formulas for the production run. The operator will read and interpret batching sheets, stage ingredients, clean totes, and accurately record production data. A key aspect of this role is ensuring the operator stays ahead of the production schedule and maintains a clean work environment. The position also emphasizes teamwork and adherence to Simmons Operating Systems principles.

Requirements

  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Machine Operation preferred.
  • Manufacturing or warehouse industry experience.
  • Experienced within a manufacturing/process environment with knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices.
  • Regularly required to sit, stand and walk.
  • Operator will need to physically move bags of ingredients and totes weighing from 40 - 60 pounds.
  • Must wear Steel toed shoes, Ear Plugs, Hair Net, Safety glasses.

Responsibilities

  • Read and accurately interpret batching sheets and other production documents to determine the order and quantity of ingredients.
  • Stage ingredients to be batched.
  • Clean totes to contain the batches.
  • Accurately record production-related data including lot numbers, supplier for each ingredient, batching date code on ingredient tags, and plan number for which gravy is intended.
  • Inspect each ingredient bag as it is being dumped, checking for condition, foreign material, grain lumps, off color, off odor, infestation, or expired materials.
  • Perform batching, weighing each ingredient per the card into a tote, labeling the tote, and staging the tote.
  • Ensure the operator stays 15 batches ahead according to the production schedule.
  • Conduct general cleaning of the area including maintenance of the gravy room, filtration system, and dry ingredient area.
  • Vacuum or wipe clean all totes prior to batching gravies.
  • Cover unused ingredients to prevent contamination and tape opened bags shut, dating and initialing each one.
  • Participate as a member of the Team, fostering strong cohesiveness and supporting team concepts, programs, and policies.
  • Attend appropriate team meetings.
  • Accept responsibility to quickly identify any areas that lack cohesiveness, bringing them to the attention of the team leader and working with the team to resolve issues.
  • Actively look for ways to achieve synergy within the larger organization.
  • Understand the responsibility to maintain familiarity with Simmons’ established operating systems (quality, security, office environment, company policies) and the position’s role in supporting these systems.
  • Communicate concerns and improvement ideas related to operating systems.
  • Perform other duties as necessary in support of business objectives.
