A Barnes & Noble Bookseller is an integral member of the bookselling team, welcoming and assisting customers, connecting readers with suitable titles and products, maintaining the store’s presentation, and helping it run efficiently. The role includes unpacking and shelving deliveries, tidying displays, and operating registers to provide quick, professional service. Booksellers are expected to demonstrate reliable attendance, flexibility in responding to store scheduling needs, a positive and energetic approach to work, consideration for colleagues, cheerful customer service, and willingness to learn. The store is open from early mornings to late evenings every day, including weekends and most holidays. Booksellers may be asked to work in other stores when able and needed to support the wider Cluster. The role requires learning and using store technology and operational procedures; maintaining book, gift, toy, and other product displays; serving customers at the register; receiving, unpacking, and shelving deliveries; locating products using personal knowledge, colleagues, BookMaster, and other information tools; supporting the café when needed; and following loss-prevention and de-escalation procedures. As experience develops, Booksellers build knowledge across fiction, nonfiction, children’s books, educational toys and games, specialty games, hobbies and collectibles, music and movies, and Newsstand. They use this knowledge to maintain sections and backstock, make recommendations, help customers, and support sales objectives and new releases. Booksellers who demonstrate mastery are expected to advance to Senior Bookseller. Employees must comply with company policies and procedures.
