A Bookseller is an integral member of a Barnes & Noble bookstore team, welcoming customers, answering questions, and connecting readers with appropriate titles and products. The role also helps maintain an attractive, clean, and efficiently run store by unpacking and shelving deliveries, tidying displays, and operating registers to provide quick, professional service. Booksellers are expected to demonstrate reliable attendance, flexibility in responding to store scheduling needs, a positive and energetic approach to work, consideration for colleagues, cheerful customer service, willingness to learn, and enthusiasm for bookselling. The role requires learning operational competencies across store technology, merchandising, register operations, receiving and shelving, product searches, café support, loss prevention, and de-escalation. Physical work includes prolonged standing, repetitive bending, lifting, and extensive walking. Booksellers may work in other stores when able and when needed to support the wider Cluster. As experience develops, Booksellers build knowledge of books and other store categories, maintain sections and backstock, make recommendations, assist customers, and support sales objectives and new releases. Employees who master the role's skills are expected to advance to Senior Bookseller. Booksellers must comply with company policies and procedures.
