About The Position

A Bookseller is an integral member of the bookselling team, helping create a welcoming community gathering place for readers. The role involves greeting and assisting customers, connecting them with books and other products, maintaining attractive store presentation, unpacking and shelving deliveries, and operating registers to provide professional service. Booksellers are expected to be dependable, punctual, positive, flexible in responding to store needs, supportive of colleagues, cheerful with customers, willing to learn, and enthusiastic about bookselling. Booksellers work as part of a busy team and are trained to use store technology; maintain and merchandise books and other product categories; operate registers; receive, unpack, and shelve deliveries; locate products using personal and colleagues’ knowledge and available tools; assist the café team when needed; and follow loss-prevention and de-escalation procedures. The role is physically active, involving prolonged standing, repetitive bending, lifting, and extensive walking. Booksellers may support other stores in the Cluster when able and needed. As their knowledge develops, Booksellers build familiarity with fiction, nonfiction, children’s books, educational toys and games, specialty games, hobbies and collectibles, music and movies, and the newsstand. They use this knowledge to maintain sections and backstock, make recommendations, help customers shop, and support sales objectives and featured products. With demonstrated mastery, Booksellers are expected to advance to Senior Bookseller. Employees must comply with company policies and procedures.
