About The Position

Responsible for performing accurate and complete pre-donor health histories to determine donor eligibility and demonstrating excellent phlebotomy skills. Duties are performed during in-center operations and on mobile blood drives.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• BLS Certification.

Responsibilities

• Perform donor screening and blood collection procedures professionally and diligently.
• Prepare and submit customized requisitions for supplies and equipment; verify receipt and distribution of ordered supplies and ensure requisitions are properly filled.
• Call blood donors as needed.
• Determine donor eligibility through related testing and evaluation of donor or patient medical histories.
• Assist physicians with special tests and procedures, recruit blood donors, and complete donation records while ensuring donor confidentiality.
• Participate in mobile and in-house blood bank operations and assist in preparing blood components.
• Apply ethical judgment and technical skill within hospital and laboratory policies and legal guidelines when making decisions and performing procedures.
• Adapt to changes and unusual circumstances in a way that promotes cooperation and minimizes disruption to the work environment.
• Follow departmental and hospital policies and procedures, including safety, quality assurance, and infection control standards.
• Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with patients, physicians, pathologists, staff, and others.
• Coordinate, plan, and prioritize work efficiently while remaining flexible to meet laboratory service needs.
• Maintain supplies in work areas and request or order supplies as needed to support efficient department operations and avoid duplicated effort.
• Perform other duties as assigned or requested.
