About The Position

The Black Oxide Operator applies black oxide coatings to metal components to improve durability and corrosion resistance. The role involves operating and maintaining black oxide equipment, preparing parts for processing, monitoring coating quality, inspecting finished components, recording process information, and supporting production workflow. The operator also troubleshoots equipment and process issues and maintains a safe, clean, and organized work environment.

Requirements

• One to three years of experience as a Black Oxide Operator or in a similar role in a metal manufacturing environment.
• Familiarity with black oxide processes, chemical composition, and equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret technical documents and work instructions.
• Strong attention to detail and a quality-conscious mindset.
• Basic mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Excellent time management skills and ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
• Willingness to work in a physically demanding environment and lift heavy objects when necessary.
• Flexibility to work occasional overtime or weekend shifts as production demands.

Nice To Haves

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Technical certification in metal finishing or a related field.
• Experience with precision measuring instruments such as calipers and micrometers.
• Knowledge of different metal alloys and their black oxide requirements.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain black oxide equipment and machinery in accordance with safety and operational guidelines.
• Prepare metal components for processing by cleaning, degreasing, and completing required pretreatment steps.
• Monitor the black oxide process to achieve the required coating thickness and color consistency.
• Inspect coated components for defects and perform touch-ups or rework as needed.
• Maintain accurate records of processing parameters, inspection results, and inventory levels.
• Collaborate with the production team to support workflow and timely order completion.
• Troubleshoot equipment issues and process inefficiencies to minimize downtime and improve productivity.
• Follow safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized work environment.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
