About The Position

The Department of Economic Security (DES) is seeking an experienced and highly motivated individual to join their team as a Benefits and Eligibility Supervisor in their Phoenix Field Office. This role involves supervising, planning, and coordinating the operations of benefits and eligibility units, determining and issuing public assistance and social service benefits. The position is responsible for effective supervision and administration of staff, including staff development, training, succession planning, and performance management. The supervisor will collaborate with other managers and staff to evaluate and implement division goals, responsibilities, policies, and procedures.

Requirements

  • Federal, State, and agency statutes, rules, and regulations applicable to the area of assignment.
  • Fundamental leadership practices.
  • Interviewing and assessment techniques, community resources, customer service practice.
  • Written and verbal communication to explain and interpret Federal and State laws, statutes, rules, regulations, and guidelines applicable to the area of assignment.
  • Access, maintain, review and interpret database information, compile and present program information.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Identify, analyze, and evaluate situations or problems to determine appropriate courses of action.
  • A high school diploma or equivalent education
  • Six to Twelve month's experience as a Lead
  • One to Three years' experience performing eligibility work with FAA systems.
  • This position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function of the job to conduct State business.
  • Successfully pass background and reference check.
  • Successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify).

Responsibilities

  • Train, supervise, and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and adjust workloads.
  • Interpret and clarify program policies and procedures for staff and implement regulations or policy changes affecting the day-to-day operation of the unit.
  • Assist staff with difficult and complex cases, including providing consultation, handling cases personally, making decisions on controversial cases, and consulting with senior management.
  • Prioritize and assign work to maintain compliance with federal, state, and mandates; ensure timeliness and accuracy of services; identify and resolve problems according to agency policies and program goals.
  • Conduct quality control and error management/prevention in eligibility services programs, including case reviews, evaluating accuracy, timeliness, and productivity; identify error trends, implement corrective action plans, and develop/conduct related training.
  • Compile and review statistical data associated with unit activities and prepare requested reports.
  • Evaluate staffing needs, participate on hiring panels, and make recommendations for effective personnel resource utilization.
  • Assist with identifying suspected fraud cases, preparing summaries of facts for fraud and overpayment, representing the agency in hearings and court appeals, and taking appropriate action.
