About The Position

The Behavior Support Specialist is an Early Learning support position at The Granite YMCA’s YMCA of Downtown Manchester location. The role supports staff in managing children’s behavior, helping children build relationships, follow rules, and remain engaged in the program. The Specialist serves as a subject matter expert in addressing children’s individual needs and coaches classroom teachers in developing behavior-management skills.

Requirements

• Strong organizational and group-management skills.
• Proficiency with Word, Excel, Outlook, and general computer and tablet functions.
• Experience with diverse populations.

Nice To Haves

• 3–5 years of experience working with children in a licensed program and supporting teachers.
• Related college credits and/or certifications.

Responsibilities

• Support training and coaching of teachers on behavior-management strategies to create classroom success.
• Continually implement and role-model appropriate behavior-management strategies.
• Support teachers in discreetly implementing success and safety plans in the group; review contract details with teachers and periodically visit the group to observe compliance.
• Recommend appropriate disciplinary procedures in accordance with YMCA standards.
• Supervise children who need support due to elevated challenges in social-emotional well-being.
• Provide a physically and psychologically safe environment and atmosphere for children.
• Maintain positive flexibility to meet childcare program needs.
• Model and teach character development and YMCA core values.
• Maintain effective working relationships with other staff through positive communication strategies and participate in activities when available.
