About The Position
Hands of Heartland is hiring a dependable, compassionate direct support professional to work with an individual with a developmental disability who has behavioral challenges. The role provides services that address the individual’s wants and needs, supports personal goals and choice, and reinforces therapies. The position is available across shifts, including weekends, with pay based on experience and education.
Requirements
- Be able to obtain certification in enhanced behavioral intervention.
- Have a valid driver's license.
- Be at least 18 years of age.
- Maintain current automobile insurance.
- Pass registry and background checks.
- Be able to lift up to 75 pounds as needed.
- Be able to use verbal and physical intervention to redirect and/or complete an emergency safety intervention with a person who is physically aggressive or self-abusive.
Nice To Haves
- At least two years of related behavioral experience.
- A degree or certification related to behavioral health.
Responsibilities
- Support the individual's personal goals.
- Administer medications.
- Plan and prepare meals.
- Assist with activities of daily living.
- Transport the individual to and from day programs and community outings.
- Reinforce therapies, including speech, behavioral support, and physical therapy.
- Address the individual's needs respectfully, with dignity and personal choice.
- Complete and maintain required documentation on a web-based system.
