About The Position

The Beer-Wine-Liquor Clerk creates an outstanding customer experience through exceptional service and helps maintain a safe, clean environment that encourages customers to return. The role assists the department manager in reaching department sales and profit goals and monitors established quality assurance standards. The clerk demonstrates the company’s core values of respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion, and safety. The clerk helps customers select beer, wine, and spirits; maintains product knowledge; supports adult beverage displays and promotions; prepares and stocks merchandise; checks product quality and dates; and helps ensure department equipment and coolers are maintained safely. The position also involves reporting discrepancies, safety concerns, accidents, and suspected illegal activity to management.

Requirements

Must be at least 21 years of age.
Ability to handle stressful situations.
Effective communication skills.
Knowledge of basic math.

Nice To Haves

Beer, wine, or liquor experience.
Knowledge of imported and domestic varieties, flavor profiles, and production methods.
Knowledge of industry trends in specialty wines and beers as they relate to customers.
Retail experience.
Ability to speak, read, and/or write in a second language.

Responsibilities

Promote trust and respect among associates.
Create a welcoming environment for customers and answer questions about products sold in the department and throughout the store.
Maintain knowledge of department products and respond to customer questions and make product suggestions.
Assist with adult beverage category display plans and special in-store promotions in consultation with store management.
Maintain familiarity with adult beverage product names, pronunciation, origins, and industry terminology.
Inform customers about Beer/Wine/Spirits specials and recommend products to meet their needs.
Prepare, package, label, and inventory merchandise.
Check product quality and freshness, review sell-by dates, and take appropriate action.
Label, stock, and inventory department merchandise.
Report product ordering and shipping discrepancies to the department manager.
Maintain a positive attitude and stay current with present, future, seasonal, and special advertisements.
Ensure proper temperatures in cases and coolers and maintain temperature logs.
Follow safety procedures, identify unsafe conditions, and notify store management.
Inspect equipment for preventive maintenance needs and notify the appropriate department or store manager of items needing repair.
Notify management of customer or employee accidents.
Report safety risks, issues, and illegal activity, including robbery, theft, or fraud.
Perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
