About The Position

Create an outstanding customer experience through exceptional service and maintain a safe, clean environment that encourages customers to return. Assist the department manager in reaching sales and profit goals and monitor established quality assurance standards. Demonstrate the company’s core values of respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion, and safety. The clerk supports adult beverage displays and promotions, helps customers choose products, and maintains department merchandise, inventory, and equipment. The role includes checking product quality and freshness, maintaining cooler temperatures and logs, following safety procedures, and reporting discrepancies, accidents, risks, and illegal activity. The essential functions must be performed with or without reasonable accommodation.

Requirements

Must be at least 21 years of age.
Ability to handle stressful situations.
Effective communication skills.
Knowledge of basic math.

Nice To Haves

Beer, wine, or liquor experience.
Knowledge of imported and domestic varieties, their flavor profiles, and how they are made.
Knowledge of industry trends in specialty wines and beers as they relate to customers.
Retail experience.
Ability to speak, read, and/or write in a second language.

Responsibilities

Promote trust and respect among associates.
Create a welcoming environment for customers by answering questions about products sold in the department and store.
Maintain knowledge of department products and answer questions or make suggestions.
Assist with adult beverage category display plans and special in-store promotions in consultation with store management.
Maintain familiarity with adult beverage product names, pronunciation, origins, and industry terminology.
Inform customers about Beer/Wine/Spirits specials and recommend products that meet their needs.
Prepare, package, label, and inventory merchandise.
Check product quality and freshness, review sell-by dates, and take appropriate action.
Label, stock, and inventory department merchandise.
Report product ordering or shipping discrepancies to the department manager.
Maintain a positive attitude and stay current with present, future, seasonal, and special advertisements.
Ensure proper temperatures in cases and coolers and maintain temperature logs.
Follow safety procedures, identify unsafe conditions, and notify store management.
Inspect equipment for preventive maintenance and notify the appropriate department or store manager of needed repairs.
Notify management of customer or employee accidents.
Report safety risks, issues, and illegal activity, including robbery, theft, or fraud.
Perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
