About The Position

Create an outstanding customer experience through exceptional service. Establish and maintain a safe and clean environment that encourages customers to return. Assist the department manager in reaching department sales and profit goals, and monitor established quality assurance standards. Demonstrate the company’s core values of respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion, and safety. The clerk supports adult beverage displays, promotions, product recommendations, merchandise preparation and inventory, product quality, and department safety. The role requires maintaining knowledge of products and industry terms, informing customers about specials, and reporting discrepancies, hazards, accidents, and other issues to management.

Requirements

Must be at least 21 years of age.
Ability to handle stressful situations.
Effective communication skills.
Knowledge of basic math.

Nice To Haves

Beer, wine, or liquor experience.
Knowledge of imported and domestic varieties, their flavor profiles, and how they are made.
Knowledge of industry trends in specialty wines and beers as they relate to customers.
Retail experience.
Ability to speak, read, and/or write in a second language.

Responsibilities

Promote trust and respect among associates.
Create an environment where customers feel welcome, important, and appreciated by answering questions about products sold in the department and throughout the store.
Gain and maintain knowledge of department products and respond to customer questions and make suggestions.
Assist with adult beverage category display plans and special in-store promotions in consultation with store management.
Maintain familiarity with adult beverage product names, pronunciation, origin, and industry terminology.
Inform customers of Beer/Wine/Spirits specials.
Recommend beer, wine, and spirits to help customers find the products they want and need.
Prepare, package, label, and inventory merchandise.
Check product quality and freshness, review sell-by dates, and take appropriate action.
Label, stock, and inventory department merchandise.
Report product ordering or shipping discrepancies to the department manager.
Maintain a positive attitude.
Stay current with current, future, seasonal, and special advertisements.
Maintain proper temperatures in cases and coolers and keep temperature logs.
Comply with safety procedures, reinforce safety programs, identify unsafe conditions, and notify store management.
Inspect equipment for preventive maintenance and notify the appropriate department or store manager when repairs are needed.
Notify management of customer or employee accidents.
Report safety risks, issues, and illegal activity, including robbery, theft, or fraud.
Perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
