About The Position

Create an outstanding customer experience through exceptional service, and maintain a safe and clean environment that encourages customers to return. Assist the department manager in reaching department sales and profit goals and monitor established quality assurance standards. Demonstrate the company’s core values of respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion and safety. The position supports customers with product information and recommendations across beer, wine and spirits, and assists with department displays, promotions, merchandise preparation and stocking, quality checks, inventory, and safety. The clerk helps maintain product and cooler conditions, stays informed about promotions, and reports discrepancies, hazards, accidents, maintenance needs, and suspected illegal activity to management.

Requirements

Must be at least 21 years of age.
Ability to handle stressful situations.
Effective communication skills.
Knowledge of basic math.

Nice To Haves

Beer, wine, or liquor experience.
Knowledge of imported and domestic varieties, flavor profiles, and production methods.
Knowledge of industry trends in specialty wines and beers as they relate to customers.
Retail experience.
Ability to speak, read, and/or write in a second language.

Responsibilities

Promote trust and respect among associates.
Create a welcoming environment for customers by answering questions about products sold in the department and throughout the store.
Maintain knowledge of department products and respond to customer questions and make product suggestions.
Assist with adult beverage category display plans and special in-store promotions in consultation with store management.
Maintain familiarity with adult beverage product names, pronunciation, origins, and industry terminology.
Inform customers about beer, wine, and spirits specials, and recommend products to meet their needs.
Prepare, package, label, and inventory merchandise.
Check product quality and freshness, review sell-by dates, and take appropriate action.
Label, stock, and inventory department merchandise.
Report product ordering or shipping discrepancies to the department manager.
Maintain a positive attitude and stay current with present, future, seasonal, and special advertisements.
Ensure proper temperatures in cases and coolers and maintain temperature logs.
Follow safety procedures, reinforce safety programs, identify unsafe conditions, and notify store management.
Inspect equipment as part of preventive maintenance and notify the appropriate manager of items needing repair.
Notify management of customer or employee accidents.
Report safety risks, issues, and illegal activity, including robbery, theft, or fraud.
Perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
