About The Position

The Beer-Wine-Liquor Clerk creates an outstanding customer experience through exceptional service and maintains a safe, clean environment that encourages customers to return. The role assists the department manager in achieving sales and profit goals and monitors established quality assurance standards. The clerk demonstrates the company’s core values of respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion, and safety. The position supports customers with product information and recommendations, helps carry out displays and promotions, and prepares, labels, stocks, and inventories merchandise. It also involves monitoring product quality and cooler temperatures, staying informed about specials and advertisements, reporting discrepancies and safety concerns, and inspecting equipment for maintenance needs. Requirements

Must be at least 21 years of age.
Ability to handle stressful situations.
Effective communication skills.
Knowledge of basic math.

Nice To Haves

Beer, wine, or liquor experience.
Knowledge of imported and domestic varieties, their flavor profiles, and how they are made.
Knowledge of industry trends in specialty wines and beers as they relate to customers.
Retail experience.
Ability to speak, read, and/or write in a second language.

Responsibilities

Promote trust and respect among associates.
Create a welcoming environment for customers by answering questions about products sold in the department and throughout the store.
Gain and maintain knowledge of department products, respond to customer questions, and make suggestions.
Assist with adult beverage category display plans and special in-store promotions in consultation with store management.
Maintain familiarity with adult beverage product names, pronunciation, origin, and industry terminology.
Inform customers about Beer/Wine/Spirits specials.
Recommend beer, wine, and spirits items to help customers find the products they want and need.
Prepare, package, label, and inventory merchandise.
Check product quality and freshness, review sell-by dates, and take appropriate action.
Label, stock, and inventory department merchandise.
Report product ordering or shipping discrepancies to the department manager.
Maintain a positive attitude.
Stay current with present, future, seasonal, and special advertisements.
Maintain proper temperatures in cases and coolers and maintain temperature logs.
Follow safety procedures, reinforce safety programs, identify unsafe conditions, and notify store management.
Inspect equipment as part of preventive maintenance and notify the appropriate department or store manager of items needing repair.
Notify management of customer or employee accidents.
Report safety risks, issues, and illegal activity, including robbery, theft, or fraud.
