About The Position

Boxcar is seeking a personable, experienced bartender for its Durham location. Bartenders set the tone for guests by preparing drinks quickly and accurately in a high-volume environment, engaging with guests, and helping create a welcoming, lively atmosphere. The role involves serving the full menu, including craft beer, cocktails, shots, and non-alcoholic options, and making recommendations.

Bartenders participate in events and theme nights, including dressing for themes when appropriate. They also share the work that keeps the bar running, including changing kegs, cleaning lines, preparing fruit, restocking, mopping, maintaining a clean bar, handling cash, and managing inventory and tabs. The position requires weekend, closing-shift, private-event, and holiday availability as business needs dictate, along with the ability to work eight-hour shifts on foot and lift 40 pounds.

Requirements

• Several years of experience in high-volume bars or nightclubs.
• Kindness, honesty, integrity, consideration, and a collaborative approach to work.
• Ability to work weekends, closing shifts, private events, and holidays as business needs require.
• Reliability and punctuality.
• Ability to work eight-hour shifts on your feet and lift 40 pounds.

• Cicerone Certified Beer Server certification.

Responsibilities

• Prepare drinks quickly and accurately while maintaining quality during high-volume service.
• Engage with guests, answer questions, and help ensure they have a positive experience.
• Know the menu, including craft beer, cocktails, shots, and non-alcoholic options, and recommend items to guests.
• Participate in events and theme nights, including dressing for themes when appropriate.
• Perform shared bar tasks, including changing kegs, cleaning lines, preparing fruit, restocking, and mopping.
• Maintain a clean bar and handle cash, inventory, and tabs accurately.
• Show up reliably and on time, and pitch in with tasks beyond core responsibilities.
