About The Position

The Bakery Combo Clerk supports the Bakery Lead in meeting the department’s sales and profit goals and contributes to a positive customer shopping experience by upholding quality standards. The role serves customers, assists with baking duties, and helps maintain the bakery department’s products, inventory, cleanliness, and safety. The position is on-site at a PAQ, Inc. store, is regular and full-time, and reports to the Lead, Bakery. It is non-exempt, with a stated pay range of $16.90–$21.50. The work involves preparing, packaging, stocking, and transporting bakery products; handling products and ingredients in hot and refrigerated areas; and frequent customer and team-member interaction in a fast-paced retail setting. Work hours vary, and availability is required on weekends, evenings, and holidays. Typical shifts for full-time employees are eight hours. A high school diploma or equivalent is required. No prior experience is required, and on-the-job training is provided. Applicants must be at least 18 years old. Previous retail or customer service experience is a plus.

Ability to operate POS systems and cashier equipment; basic computer skills.
Attention to detail when processing transactions and handling cash.
Ability to adapt to changing situations, manage multiple demands, and work effectively with diverse personalities.
Ability to handle multiple tasks, including baking, customer service, and cleaning, and make timely decisions in high-pressure situations.
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, typically eight-hour shifts.
Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
Ability to perform repetitive reaching, bending, stooping, and squatting.
Manual dexterity to handle money and operate POS systems, 10-key adding machines, and self-checkout systems.
Ability to work around hot ovens and baking equipment, tolerate temperature variations, and safely handle hot items.
Good vision to assess baked goods, read labels and recipes, and operate machinery safely.
Ability to move quickly, communicate clearly, and maintain stamina in a fast-paced environment.
Availability to work weekends, evenings, and holidays.
Ability to follow the dress code and wear approved hats or hair nets, safety-toe footwear, and non-slip shoes.

Responsibilities

Provide friendly, helpful customer service, address difficult situations, and resolve customer concerns with supervisor assistance as needed.
Receive, price, and stock products according to approved procedures, ensuring accuracy, quality, and proper rotation.
Prepare, package, and stock bakery items as assigned.
Transport products to preparation or storage areas, including refrigerated storage boxes.
Maintain inventory control to support freshness, product quality, and turnover while minimizing out-of-stock and overstocked items.
Handle damaged and spoiled products according to company policy.
Maintain a clean, attractive, and welcoming department.
Comply with safety policies and procedures and follow applicable health and civil code regulations.
Follow state, county, and local weights-and-measures laws and labeling requirements.
Report malfunctioning refrigeration or equipment to store management immediately.
Keep current on promotions and store policies to provide accurate customer information.
Report potentially unsafe conditions and suspicious activities.
Perform other duties as assigned.
