About The Position

Hy-Vee's Bakery Cake Designer uses creativity and decorating skills to bring customers' cake visions to life, including birthday cakes, everyday treats, and wedding cakes delivered and set up on site. The role provides customer service, helps coordinate bakery production, and serves as a lead for part-time and other employees. Training is provided for candidates with six months or less of similar or related work experience.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent experience.
Six months or less of similar or related work experience; training is provided.
Strong decorating skills and ability to stay current on cake design trends and techniques.
Ability to solve practical problems and follow instructions carefully in a fast-paced environment.
Math skills, including fractions, decimals, and percentages.
Ability to lead and guide part-time employees, including providing instruction and reviewing their work.
Clear communication with customers, co-workers, and the Bakery Manager.
Commitment to Hy-Vee's mission and passion for delivering an outstanding customer experience.
Ability to complete a pre-employment drug screen.

Responsibilities

Greet customers, take bakery-counter orders, and assist customers with their needs throughout the store.
Review daily orders and plan timelines and production schedules; check cake orders for details such as size, deco pack, icing needs, and dates.
Decorate bakery items in a timely manner and stay current on new designs and trends.
Develop daily bakery orders for bakers, including cakes and required sizes.
Track daily retail production and identify tasks to complete with co-workers.
Check product dates, pull cases for work, and list items that need filling or replacing.
Order supplies for the decorating area and verify orders upon receipt.
Deliver and set up wedding cakes at locations outside the store.
Communicate daily with the Bakery Manager about displays, weekly ads, and special needs.
Lead part-time and other employees by instructing them and reviewing their work.
Participate in employee cross-training.
Follow proper sanitation procedures and keep the work area clean, neat, and safe.
Answer customer calls promptly and helpfully, including taking product orders.
Follow Hy-Vee's dress code, hygiene standards, and department and company guidelines.
Assist with other tasks or special projects as needed.
